Our Sustainability Policy

Our commitment to responsible business conduct starts with our overarching Sustainability Policy.

Our independence empowers us to make an unwavering commitment to social, economic, and environmental sustainability. ICL is proud to be among the first industry to develop a Sustainability Policy that lives up to the international standard for responsible business conduct in accordance with the UN Guiding Principles and OECD guidelines - and goes above and beyond. That means your cargo - and your sustainability commitments - are protected, too.

Our Commitment

Block text

ICL is committed to independent transatlantic trade, delivered in a sustainable way. Every day, we connect goods and people across the Atlantic in accordance with our values of responsibility, reliability, and integrity.

We demonstrate an unwavering commitment to take care of our people - including the right to a healthy and safe working environment - to support healthy markets, and to reduce our CO2 emissions.

Our commitment builds on internationally-agreed core areas of sustainable development:

  • human rights (including labor rights),
  • environment (including climate), and
  • economic sustainability (including anti-corruption, anti-trust, and tax).

These areas are covered by the principles listed by the UN Global Compact and made operational through the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights and the OECD Guidelines for Multinational Enterprises (UNGPs/OECD).

We comply with regulations, wherever we operate. In addition, our commitment means that we will conduct regular impact assessments to identify and prevent or mitigate risks of impacts from our business practices on all key areas of sustainable development. We will measure the effects of our actions and communicate our efforts to relevant stakeholders.

If an actual impact occurs, we will seek to make the impact stop, prevent, or mitigate re-occurrences. And we will provide access to remedy to those impacted where we have caused or contributed to the impact.

How Our Employees Play Their Part

Block text

To help us realize our commitments, we expect our employees to act in accordance with our Sustainability Policy in their everyday work.

We provide whistleblower and reporting mechanisms and encourage our employees to inform us of adverse impacts on their human rights or that of others, which ICL may be causing, contributing to, or linked to via a business relationship.

We welcome input from our employees about how we can best manage our adverse impacts and show responsibility. Our expectations of ICL employees are set out in our Code of Conduct for Employees.

What We Expect Of Business Relationships

Block text

At ICL, we value our strong network of interconnected relationships and establishing mutually beneficial partnerships with our suppliers.

We expect our business relationships to adhere to the same international minimum standard for responsible business conduct to which we hold ourselves accountable - as set out in the UNGPs and OECD.

And we expect that they require the same of their business relationships.

Where our business relationships cause, contribute to, or are linked to severe adverse impacts, we expect to be informed promptly.

Our full expectations are detailed in our Code of Conduct for Business Relationships.

Committed To Sustainability Across The Entire Business

Block text

Our Sustainability Policy is embedded across all areas of our business - in protocols, procedures, and guidelines - is publicly available, and is actively communicated to all relevant stakeholders.

We encourage our employees and other stakeholders to inform us about challenges to human rights, the environment or anti-corruption protections that are linked to ICL or its business relationships.
